Come and join us for Armed Forces Day Celebrations
On Saturday 25 June, Stevenage will be joining many other towns, villages and cities in celebrating Armed Forces Day.
Armed Forces Day is the perfect opportunity to meet and celebrate some of our cadets, serving officers and veterans. It’s a chance to show our appreciation and support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces Community. So, come along and get involved as this fantastic event comes to Stevenage Town Centre from 10am to 4pm.
If you’re looking to change your career, or you’re looking at where to start, Armed Forces Day is also a great way to find out first-hand about the types of roles available too, with cadets, officers and veterans showcasing their experiences about the work they have undertaken while serving.
There are at least five charities joining us for the day, so far these include Mind, Royal Naval Association, Royal British Legion and Air Scouts, but there is still time for others to sign up, so look out for any others who pop up on the day.
There’s a lot happening throughout the day, with the chance to look inside emergency vehicles and a World War II tank. Along with performances from Alex Shows, D-Day Dollies, and the Marching Band, which will keep you entertained. For the children, there’s free face painting and lots of activities to get involved in. We can’t wait to see you, so pop along, enjoy the atmosphere, grab a bite to eat and why not do some shopping too while you’re there! Plus, don’t forget there's free parking at St George’s multi-storey car park. So once you’ve parked up, come along, enjoy the day and join the rest of the community with a schedule that’s fit to burst!
Councillor Sandra Barr, Executive Member - Communities, Neighbourhoods and Co-operative Council said: “Armed Forces Day is great opportunity for those looking to join the Armed Forces to speak with serving cadets, officers and veterans. Events such as this bring the whole community of Stevenage together and ensure we can offer support to these special people. It also offers us the chance to thank and support all those service men and women who have dedicated their time for many different reasons. They carry out their job promoting world peace, delivering aid and providing security to name but a few. Since the pandemic it’s wonderful to see so many events returning and I’m sure there will be more in the future, so do keep a look out. I’d also like to say a big thank you to the officers who also help to plan and organise these events. I hope you have a great day and don’t forget to share your photos with us on social media.”
